Nice to meet you!

Thank you for visiting! My name is Caoímhe (pronounced Keeva)!

I am currently a senior at Indiana University, majoring in Informatics. I have a deep passion for creativity utilizing technology and data, and I am committed to exploring innovative solutions that enhance user experiences and improve information systems.

Throughout my college journey, I have actively participated in various clubs, and am currently wrapping up three minors, all in which I’ve had the opportunity to hone both my programming and communication skills, and collaborate with peers on exciting projects. I am particularly interested in the intersection of technology and our social lives, and I aspire to develop applications and products that address real-world challenges with enhanced and exciting user interface design.

Being a dual citizen, I have spent half my life living and being educated in America and the other half in Europe. This experience has equipped me with a wide perspective from a young age, a fierce desire to explore the unknown, and an enhanced empathetic nature that makes me excited to work in new places and with different people. With my strong analytical skills and creative mindset, I am excited about the potential to make a meaningful impact in the field of Informatics.

What is it?

A 13 week research driven app development project

the goal

Our team focused on the topic “Mental Health and Wellness” with a concentration on social media addiction and how this can lead to decreased productivity and eventually depression, and brainstormed what we could do to fix this widespread issue

  • Conducting comprehensive research into user behaviors, needs, and motivations
  • Using this research to inform the design and functionality of the app
  • Applying human-centered design principles to ensure the app meets user needs and provides a positive user experience
  • Collecting and analyzing user feedback to continually improve the app
  • Collaborating with team members on the overall design and functionality of the app
  • Developing key features and ensuring their smooth integration into the overall app, conducting tests and debugging
  • Coordinating with team members to resolve issues and improve the app

Gymder

the concept

Gymder is a Mobile Fitness and Social App that is geared towards helping college students implement physical activity into their busy schedules.

When joining a new college, it can be hard to meet new people and especially intimidating entering a new environment. We created an app that compiles many of our favorite fitness and social features. Gymder helps college students to connect with gym buddies, find and save personalized workouts, track health data, and create a fitness schedule that works the best for them.

the problem

The aim of our project was to create a collaborative technology that enhances the life of the user. Our group came together because we all shared a similar interest in fitness. We decided to curate our target audience to be college aged students that have an interest in fitness, or simply want to implement physical activity in their lives, but do not know where to start. We recognize that college can be a time of uncertainty, overwhelming opportunities, and intimidation, and thus wanted to create a space where college students can take control.

the solution

We created an app where students can search the local area and find people on a similar skill level, that they can become gym buddies with, and conquer their fitness journey together. We also created a space for scheduling, workout planning, health data tracking and the option to share this information with friends, in a friendly competitive kind of way. The app features many outlets for users to upload their own workouts, tips and tricks, and gain a following. There are workout videos and plans for all different sorts of exercises and skill levels.

Design process

We began our design process by sketching low-fidelity prototypes, and then moved to mid and then high fidelity. During the process, we interviewed potential users who fit our target audience group, and conducted cognitive walkthroughs and user studies in order to gain a better understanding of the inherent functionality of our idea and app template. We took all these sources into account and made thorough iterations, in order to produce our final prototype.
